Description
Get away from it all in this detached, traditional, stone cottage for two in the peaceful, friendly, conservation village of Brassington. A cosy base from which to explore the Peak District, surrounded by rolling hills, country lanes and walks from the doorstep. Within easy walking distance of two pubs, the village vending machine "shop" and the church.
The Clearview wood burner and beamed living room will add a touch of romance to your stay.
Flexible short breaks are usually available.
The cottage is best suited to a couple, although a double bed settee in the living room is available should you wish to extend your party.
Downstairs, the stable front door opens directly into the compact but well equipped kitchen which in turn leads to a cosy bedroom with double bed and the bathroom with bath and overhead power shower. Stairs go up the the living/dining room which extends across the length of the cottage. An external door leads down to the side of the property where there is a small paved sitting area ideal for catching the sun.
Parking is directly outside the cottage, either to the front or side.
Free wifi is provided along with electric, towels, bedding and a starter pack of logs for the fire. There is a payphone upstairs and TV/DVD in the living room and the bedroom.
There is no door at the top of the stairs to the living room which may make the cottage unsuitable for mobile babies and toddlers. There is also no mobile signal at the house although mobiles may work higher up the hill.
This unique corner of Derbyshire is an excellent base for walking, climbing, cycling, water sports and bird watching at nearby Carsington Water which also has an excellent playground for children.
Chatsworth and Haddon Hall stately homes and gardens are within 30 minutes drive, as are the market towns of Bakewell and Ashbourne. The nearest town is Wirksworth which is 4 miles away. The leisure centre in Wirksworth offers swimming, climbing wall and a gym.
Dovedale with its famous stepping stones and the picturesque village of Tissington are a 15 minute drive from the cottage and the Tissington and High Peak trails offer excellent cycling possibilities with bike hire.
Not to be missed in the early summer is the Derbyshire tradtition of well dressings in nearby villages when the locals create wonderful pictures surrounding the wells with flowers and seeds.
Matlock Bath is within easy reach with its cable cars and caves, and the caves of Castleton are a 30 mile drive away. Some of these attractions are seasonal and so it is always advisable to check beforehand.
Short breaks and weekly bookings are available and, whilst we will remain at a distance from our guests we are usually only 15 minutes drive or a phone call away should you require assistance.

Wirksworth is the second largest town in the Derbyshire Peak District, and is also one of the area’s oldest. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 and developed as a centre for lead mining and stone quarrying. There are many fine old buildings to be found here, the most notable of which is St Mary’s Church, which is believed to date to around 653 AD. Now the town is a bustling local centre with a variety of small shops - including galleries, tea shops, craft shops and pubs.
In the late 19th century the remains of a woolly rhino were found in the Dream Cave in Carsington Pastures, close to Wirksworth. The Wirksworth Heritage Centre showcases the history of Wirksworth, from its Roman and lead mining histories, to the woolly rhino, and then the modern era. Other nearby attractions include the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, the Steeple Grange Light Railway, and the National Stone Centre, which tells the story of stone and how it has influenced the development of the area.
Despite the centrality of the mining industry to the town, the landscape around is very picturesque. Wirksworth is an excellent base from which to explore the Peak District National Park, with its rugged moorlands and beautiful limestone dales. Just a few of the tourist attractions within this area include Alton Towers, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall, Lyme Hall, the Buxton Museum, the show caves at Castleton and Buxton, and the cable railway at Matlock.
